I try to help people see the world as I do.
I do many things very quickly and easily.
You can too, when you learn some tricks and strategies.
Total Commander is a free program to help you manage your own files on your computer.
You can find things quickly and copy them to or from your DVD player or your thumb drive or anywhere on the hard drive or external drive.
You can back up your files, both copying the new changed ones and also removing form the back up files that you intentionally erased from your active work area on your hard drive.
www.abodia.com/l L for Lessons shows ways to organize your hard drive to make back ups quick and easy
Total Commander is great to do many different things. Learn it first. It's free to download.
Total Commander can back up a single file or folder or your whole hard drive.
Index Your Files is even better when you are just looking for a file. (also free from IndexYourFiles.com)
I can search my 1/2 million files in just seconds to find a file I want.
Tot. Commander looks for a file name or template like *.doc any document or T*.jpg any picture whose name starts with a T
You can say look in last week, or last month or last year.
Tot. Commander will search for a phrase that is in the file you want, like "Act of 1871" or "income tax"
Index Your files will NOT look for a specific phrases, but will search for any file that has all the words you mention like:
motion to dismiss dismiss motion Washington DC Baltimore Annapolis
So each program does something, Tot. Commander is the superior program to learn and do many things.
But if you are just looking for a file on your computer, Index Your Files can find it very fast.
If you see something on the internet, you can usually copy it or part of it to your computer.
On your computer you can find, edit, use it quicker then if you have to go to the internet to get it.
Some things that were on the internet were removed and are no longer available .
Learn to you the WayBack Machine
to find things in old internet back up that are no longer available on the web.
Your Computer Files
You can only search for a web site link like: http://www.abodia.com/skype
You cannot search for a term "income tax" "anti-gravity"
The WayBack Machine can show you what was at that link at different times like: Oct 2004, May 2008, Dec. 2014
Foot Note: Why do you back up your stuff ?
I back up my Windows Operating System. It cost $ 100+ to buy a new Windows OS, and it takes time &* money to get a technician to set everything up.
I could take me a week to rebuilt my computer from scratch, but only 15 minutes to restore a back up.
I keep my operating system and programs as one back up, which I back up monthly.
I back up my files, data, e-mails, videos etc. every few days.
I have run many computers for over 15 years and I have NEVER LOST a file.
Sure I have lost a few things, I had a virus or some setting mess up, but I just go to my back up
... and presto, I restore my computer to work like new again.
I can't pay money or take time to have a technician fix my problems, but I know how to and I do back up and restore.
I don't like to have books and papers at my place, they are messy and how could I find stuff.
When I keep things on my computer, I can find them quickly, I can copy & give to friends. The trick is to be able to find things !!
Index Your Files This is a free program from the internet, IndexYourFiles.com I think.
www.abodia.com/l/tc/index.htm This shows screen images of using I Y F.
Read the Help File on the screen to understand it's commands.
You can search for any template or type of files: doc, jpg, avi, txt, etc.
You can search for words to be found in that file: Germany Rupelstilskin 1871
IYF will select any file that has all the words, TC only selects files that have that specific phrase in the file.
You can give it a time foot print in last 10 days or between May 2008 and Jan 2010
The list of possible files are listed in the screen center.
To click on any file displays that file in the 3rd right window.
You can see what path or directory that file is in.
You MAY use a different way, like using Total Commander to go to that folder so you can see other related files and or copy or change that file or things in that folder.
