Index Your Files  www.IndexYourFiles.com

This is another great program - free from the internet. search it by name.

I suggest you first learn Total Commander, to see how to search, find, view and
even move files about on your hard drive, thumb  drive or media player.

When you understand Total Commander functions, then you can add this program also.

Total Commander can do more, looking into the files, searching for simply a phrase within a file, etc.
but this program Index Your Files, works slightly different.

Maybe once a week or so, you run the Index program, that reads all the files on your hard drive, or where ever you tell it to look.

It creates a new file index with the file names, dates, path of folder names, etc. for all your files.

When you do a search, Total Commander has to read the directories from your hard drive.

This IYF program just looks into the single file it creates
with all the file names,  dates, folders, so it can be 10 or 100 times faster.

Total Commander still has unique features. Don't abandon it.

I have 1/2 million files on my computer. I often use Index Your Files as it runs much faster to find things.

Some times, once I locate a file and see it's folders, then I go to Total Commander and open to that particular directory
to work on that file, or copy it and or see other files in that same folder.

Here is my point.

We work, think and do things.

If you once wrote something or copied it to our hard drive.
it may be useful to see, read, edit or use that file.

Modify what you once did for a new project without having to start from scratch.

But if you can't find the original file, or if not find it easily,

you will lose the advantage of what you already have.

Many people keep paper copies so they can find things.

I cannot manage the 1/2 million files I have if they were printed.

I can find files fast from my computer and
yes, I keep a current back up on a separate hard drive.

Total Commander can do backups by synchronizing any folder or your whole hard drive or partition
to another hard drive or even thumb drive.

You have thoughts, you have words, images, files and audio/ video.

If you LEARN how to use Total Commander and this Index Your Files,
you will save much time and work on your computer and do projects much faster.

They are free, they are excellent.

Total Commander basic is free, but TC does charge a fee to get all their feature.
The free copy is good, but additional feature are well worth the extra cost.

Of all the programs I have ever used, Total Commander is my favorite, most used, most useful.

Index You Files is even better to search for files.

They search differently.

Total Commander requires exact words, phrases in file name or in content.

Index Your Files will look for more variations of the word you seek.

Total Commander will search specifically for    Quick Brown Fox

Index Your Files will search more generally for     Fox Quick bro
